This is my life right now...

....busy, messy, and all over the place! I really meant to update the blog but this semester has been crazy. Lots and lots has happened, and I can only hope I'll have some time in the next few weeks to post some here :) Wish me luck with my final papers, projects, and presentations, and studying for Finals, and my Sophomore Hearing, and, and, and....

Oh, I have had very little time to knit...BUT! I *have* been working on a scarf for a friend, and I now knit in a weekly meeting. Progress is slow but definite. I even brought it to a high school production of a musical and knit during the performance :P Here's proof:

I think the woman was a little confused, but she was very nice about it all. Hopefully there will be another update a little sooner than the time it took for this one to come around ;)

So, so close

Interesting how I thought this semester's schedule was going to be easy. After much rearranging and drops, adds, and general confusion, my schedule looked to have 17 credits, only one more than estimated previously (forgot an ensemble). I was actually thinking I was enrolled for too little, and added a piano class to the mix. Unfortunately the program we use automatically registers students for only one credit rather than the four we actually take...hence, rather than the relaxing 16-credit hour semester, I am now taking 20. Sigh. It's sadly sort of a break from the past year.

Since this first week has been all about trying to find books for classes (i.e. wait for the books to arrive courtesy Media Mail, aka Directionless-Lame-Donkey-With-A-Heavy-Load speed) and mooching books off friends to get homework done, I haven't had time to post.

I want desperately to write about my Toronto trip but I'll wait until I can devote the proper time and entry for it. I had loads of fun, and I promise it'll be interesting. Still waiting for the film.

On the plus side, I have finally received my camera back from Christmastime when I left it on the other side of the state! My joy is unbounded, and I want to go around taking pictures of everything. Had I gotten it a few days ago, I may very well have skipped class to cavort around campus and take a million shots of the beauty of nature. The weather has been such that everything has a coat of smooth, shiny ice on it. The trees in the sunlight look like they've been encased in fine crystal, and they glisten so beautifully it almost breaks my heart. The ice has been slowly melting off when people haven't been messing with the branches so things aren't nearly as breath-taking as before, but it was one of those times when I love winter more than usual. Le sigh.

Hmm, Blogger photo isn't doing what I want it to right now, so I'll have to post pictures later..I'm sorry there haven't been any pix yet but there will be, soon!

Tomorrow I go to Band Banquet, a.k.a. Band Prom and will take lots and lots of photos. Post (with pictures! and knitting!) coming soon :)

Start it out right

Word of interest: asinine "adjective. 1. foolish, unintelligent, or silly; stupid. 2. of or like an ass."

I've been writing for a while on this site here, but got sick of the ads being thrown at me like rice at a wedding. Also, I prefer the community at Blogger. I am hoping to make my own little home online where I can meet new people that share my interests and have other things in common.

So you can get to know me, here's a little introduction. My name is Marielle, and I'm a 19-year-old sophomore attending Western Michigan University. I am majoring in Music & Spanish Education, and hope to teach at the high school or collegiate level. I play clarinet, which explains the title. My favorite hobbies are reading and knitting, but I have many other interests, usually entering and leaving in phases. I have one younger brother (Erek) and a cockapoo (Calli). I love life as a college student and try to live it to the fullest!

I intend for this to be a blog about knitting, but it will also be about my life and experiences as a student and beyond. I will probably write about my other hobbies and activities, too, so expect content to be varied. I say this also because college schedules are hectic for me and I don't usually find a lot of time to knit...I assume you would bore easily if I wrote only about knitting and an entry would consist of "knit another inch on the same project I've been working on for months".

There will be pictures once I recover my digital camera from my Uncle's house in Ann Arbor, so it won't always be this plain.

Good news: I'm going to Canada! Western's football team did really well this season, and so the whole team and marching band are going to the first-ever International Bowl in Toronto. I have been reading up on the city *which I am falling in love with just from the book* and am ridiculously excited to spend the two days there with the Bronco Marching Band and see the sights. There are near a dozen yarn stores in Toronto, too! These people are lucky :) We leave tomorrow, and I am packed and terrified I will leave something so crucial (like my clarinet) that my director will hate me for eternity and ship me straight back home.

Like I said, I started this to meet new and fun people. I've noticed that there aren't many blogs of college-age knitters, and decided to step in and try to fill the gap. If you're a university student, I'd love to hear from you.
Actually, I'd love to talk to most anyone, so please feel free to leave comments [so long as they are not spam or pointlessly degrading as so many other bloggers have suffered]. Thanks for reading.
